Advanced Practice:

  • Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES).

    This is an extended scope of practice for a Speech Pathologist

    Includes:

  • Nasendoscopy of the upper airway whilst eating/drinking

  • Thorough Speech Pathology Instrumental Assessment AND Ear Nose and Throat consultation

  • Biofeedback and more accurate therapeutic direction

  • Detailed report and DVD/USB on request

  • Necessary on-referrals made using this detailed instrumental assessment

Additional competencies of practice:

  • Videofluoroscopy (swallow x-ray) - Completed offsite through the hospital

  • Tracheostomy and Laryngectomy- Ellie works in ICU, ED and specialist Voice, Swallowing and Airways clinics

Areas of Interests: Adult population

Dysphagia, voice, upper airway dysfunction (such as chronic cough), stroke, progressive neurological conditions, head and neck cancer

Locations: Privately at Errard Specialists, and in public hospitals in Ballarat and Melbourne

Work:

  • Ellie works in a range of different teams - stroke, general medical, oncology

  • Ellie maintains up-to-date knowledge and skills through conferences and workshops

  • She has presented at national conferences and regularly provides education to audiences within and outside her profession

  • Ellie is a clinical educator and university lecturer

  • She is currently completing her Master's in Health Leadership and Management

  • Ellie is conducting research projects in transdisciplinary approaches to swallowing impairments in respiratory diseases

Referrals accepted from:

GP’s, ENT’s, Neurologists, Allied Health, Nursing, professional voice teachers, self-referrals, NDIS plan managers and more.

Ellie works predominantly with adults, however may see teenagers if appropriate.

Referrals are best accompanied by relevant information on the swallowing, voice or communication impairment to be investigated/managed

Dysphagia

  • Clinical swallowing assessment of cranial nerves, oral health and eating/drinking

  • Advanced Practice in swallow assessment using nasendoscopy. Includes onsite ENT consultation - dual consultation in one visit

  • Videofluoroscopy (swallow x-ray) completed in radiology at Grampians Health - Ellie conducts these herself where available
